As a well-known historic and cultural city in the northeast of China, Jilin is the only city in China that has a name doubled as the name of a city and of a province. As a gazetted national scenic spot, Lake Songhua is one of the largest artificial lakes in the country that attracts many swimmers in the summer and skiers in the winter.
