Location/History
Gion
is an old.
It located in Higashiyama area. It is near the Kamogawa River. There are two
main streets. One is Shijyo Street which
is extended from east and west and another is Hanamikouji Street which
is
extended from south and north. Gion
flourished in front of Yasaka shrine gate.
In Gion, there were high-class
Japanese-style restaurants, teahouse and Japanese-style hotel a long
time ago. It is said that side of Gion
burnt in
Oninnoran. From the Meiji era downward,
Gion developed HANAMATI which represent in Kyoto. There
is a monument inscribed with a poem of
Yu Yoshii who loved Gion on HakukawaSteet.
